Smartphone Ethics You Should Follow

Smartphone Ethics You Should FollowRemember watching those old Samurai movies where the Master keeps on chanting, “Think of the sword as an extension of your hand”. Well, guess what? It’s the 21st century, and the sword is your ultra-sleek smartphone. As much as we deny the fact that smartphones have become an integral part of our lives, it has brought about a certain disharmony in our society. Let’s take a peek into how smartphones have bent few of our basic ethics, and how we need to get them back straight, pronto!

1. Keeping On Silent Mode In the Right Places

Remember when you wanted to throw a chair at the person who’s phone rang right in the middle of the movie in a movie theatre? Or that annoying Avengers ringtone played by some fool in the hospital? These are some of those moments where you completely lose it and question the existence of such cretins. There are social and communal places around us that expect us to let the silence persist without breaking it with your smartphone’s shrill ringing. Cinema theatres and hospitals are few places that expect you to keep your decorum intact, keep it that way and you might save yourself from the unfortunate opportunity of having a chair thrown at you.

2. No Phubbing

We all have gone through that time when the elderly have yelled at us for using our phones at the dinner table, and for many valid reasons. Other than coming off as downright rude and disrespectful, the knack of being occupied in your phone while being in a crowd, called phubbing, can also cause irregularity in your food-intake since you are not able to concentrate on the task in your hand. This has led to obesity, amnesia, and also getting smacked by your dates if you check the phone during your dinner date.

3. Avoid Texting While Walking

‘Tom and Jerry’ is downright hilarious, especially when you see Jerry mindlessly walking straight into the open manhole and emerging covered in complete muck. Funny, right? Not in real life. Try imagining yourself walking on the streets completely emerged in the cute conversation you’re having with your lover over WhatsApp when suddenly you find yourself kissing the footpath in full-frontal view of the public. That’s what it is all about. Do yourself a favor and get rid of this habit. Let the nature around you captivate your eyes than the artificiality that you hold in your hands.

4. Avoid Using Your Phone in The Loo

Let’s get down to business. Bathroom is infested with germs; horrifying, disgusting, fatal germs. And they have an affinity to stick to anything and everything that they come in contact with. Your smartphone among other things are a sticky-magnet and your fingers, that have reached places we can’t mention here, are the right hosts to deliver all the germs to the smartphone. And it is that same smartphone that you stick to your ear and keep close to your mouth while talking. Let that fact sink in and act accordingly.

5. Avoid Using Your Phone As An Excuse

Trying to get out of a boring conversation? The instinctive thing that you do is to whip out your smartphone and pretend to be busy. Avoid doing that. It’s a disheartening move, and everyone knows you are being pretentious for those few moments. Rather, try making the conversation more interactive and exciting. Stuck in an unknown place and don’t know what to do? Refrain from reaching out to your smartphone and resort to occupying your mind with the environment you is in. This may very well help you discover new things and make you look less of a jerk.
